Rob Roy Residence

Austin, Texas

A home for a multigenerational family is placed at the top of a hill, celebrating remarkable views of the Texas Hill Country.

The architecture is unapologetically modern in the otherwise traditional character of the Rob Roy neighborhood, while carefully considering the ancient principles of Vastu Shastra. Guests arrive by ascending to an auto court under the canopy of large mature Live Oak trees. The concealed entry slips through a void in massive stone walls, opening to an expansive living area with serene hill country views. Large panels of glass slide open along the rear of the home and are protected from sun with deep overhangs. Outdoor living and entertaining happens on a variety of terraces organized around a large three sided vanishing edge pool, between parallel wings of the home. Continuous vertical cedar planes wrap from exterior to interior spaces, fading the lines between crisp modern architecture and vivid landscape.

Light fills every space in the home, with the goal of inspiring and brightening each day spent together with family.
