Logan’s Hollow Residence

West Lake Hills, Texas

A home for a growing young family, carves an oasis into the hillside while maintaining sweeping views over West Lake Hills.

The house is embedded within a steep terrain, allowing two attitudes; elevated perch for long dramatic views and a shady semi enclosed backyard for kids to swim and play. The lifted roof of the great room is visible from the procession from the street to the entry. The walk to the entry is atop a retaining wall which embraces the site’s cliff-like nature. Upon entry one is met with views of the shady oasis while the natural choreography of the house directs people to the great room and kitchen, open to sweeping views of the rolling hills. The threshold of the great room to private spaces is defined by the massive fireplace wall that is seemingly holding up the clerestory. On the lower levels of the house, access to the landscape is available on the exterior terraces connected to a fitness area and to children’s bedrooms.

The result is a home which holds a rich and protected outdoor experience, which establishes its presence the moment it is in view.
