Hillside Resort

Austin, Texas

Set into a dramatic slope, the design proposed for the landscape to flow through, around, and on top of the pavilion like residence. The clients desired a strong connection to the outdoors so the home opens generously and strives to create a harmonious lifestyle. Strategically placed glazing frames vistas overlooking preserved natural land, adding a sense of tranquility, while sunlit interior gardens foster well-being.

As large glass panels receded, the central social spaces open directly to the pool deck merging water and architecture. Heavy stone walls give a sense of enclosure at select moments. The material palette, featuring cedar, hemlock, steel, glass, and stone, complements the dense surrounding plants including live oaks and cedar elm trees. With nature as its inspiration and its canvas, the home elegantly merges serenity and shelter, promoting values of healthy living and a connection to nature.
